We have been growing positive actions
for over 50 years
that have allowed us to
harvest great legacies!
Our beginnings
By the late 60’s, Juan José Vilaseca was already a consolidated businessman in relevant lines of business and took the lead to produce the first yogurt in Ecuador: Chivería Natural Yogurt, a classic that in 2019 reached its 50 year anniversary.
Babahoyo’s birth
In 1986, we concentrated a group of tomato farmers and started the Veconsa Babahoyo factory with the idea of manufacturing canned tomatoes. This would be the birth of the Facundo brand!
The Gandul
Through an environmental scan and looking for new alternatives for the farmer, in 1990 we transformed the cotton sector to harvesting an innovative crop: Gandul (pigeon peas). This year would mark a before and after, feeling proud to be pioneers and transforming the lives of thousands of farmers and their families.
Guava processing
With our pioneering soul, since the 80’s we have been growing a non-traditional fruit in Ecuador: guava. There were more than 450 hectares, and in 1991 we began to process prime guava pulp in a new production plant. It was so unknown worldwide, that we would show customers photos of the fruit to be able to sell! Thanks to these origins, we currently manufacture and process numerous food pulps at this factory.
Veconsa’s birth
A short time later, we continued betting on the country and opened Veconsa Daule, where we manufacture frozen products. It was impossible to imagine that, thanks to this, 15 years later we would become the largest exporter of frozen bananas in the world.
Increasing production
What nature gives, we turn into food and a source of employment. In 1997, we increased the production of Gandul with a second production plant. Today, half of the canned and frozen pigeon peas sold in the world is from Veconsa.
Marketing of products
In the 2000’s, we continued to grow formalizing our export units (Amerifoods) and local sales (Tropicalimentos). From nature to plate, we feed millions of homes!
Frozen banana production
In 2002, we hit a major milestone, starting the production of frozen bananas. In as little as two years, we increased our production capacity, supplying the market with the world’s best frozen banana, this time with an individually quick freezing method!
Diana’s Bananas
To continue offering quality and nature throughout the world, and to expand our dream, in 2019 we acquired the company Diana’s Bananas (DB).
New identity
The most recent step in our history is our name change. In 2020 Semvra was born as a new identity, collecting all the years of history and tradition, looking to the future, and seeking to continue growing positive actions, to always be harvesting great legacies.
